Safety Comes Standard

Children playing under a Pro Dunk hoop on a residential driveway.

Pro Dunk systems create a safe engaging environment right at home. Protective padding and a large overhang distance ensure your children and their friends stay safe while keeping them close to home.

Protective Safety Padding

Pro Dunk® is designed to protect all players. Wrap around pole padding protects aggressive players that drive in hard for a lay-ups and play underneath the hoop. In contrast, many other basketball goals do not include the protective padding needed to help protect players from injury. Padding carries a one year warranty.

The backboard and pole padding set fitted to a Pro Dunk system.
  • Pole Padding

Helps keep player’s safe when playing under the basket

High impact safety padding is wrapped around the pole to help keep young and aggressive players alike safe while playing under the basket. The padding is skinned in a tough vinyl that holds up well in harsh environments and is secured with a continuous strip of Velcro along the backside of the pole.

Some systems will also include the gusset pad which covers the bolts at the base of the system where it attaches to the concrete. Systems that do not include gusset padding will have rounded caps to cover the bolts instead.

$190.00 value, included with your system standard

Break-Away Rim

For players unleashing their dunking power on the Pro Dunk system, we have included a heavy-duty break-away rim that is designed to absorb the pressure and pop right back into place. This softens the blow to player's hands and joints preventing injury. Also, the rim uses a tubular net attachment instead of classic horns which eliminates the risk of catching a finger or injure a player’s head.

Keeps Kids In A Safe Home Environment

The Pro Dunk system gets children excited about being active and keeps them at home or your playground. Your new engaging driveway, backyard or playground basketball court will be the new place to be allowing you to keep impressionable children active with a healthy activity.

Large Safe-Play Area

Take the pole out of the playing area while keeping balls and players on the court. Overhang is defined as the distance from the front of the pole to the front of the backboard. Regulation courts have a distance of 4' from the baseline to the front of the backboard. This area is used to box out and allows players running in for lay-ups to stay in play. More importantly it keeps the pole out of the playing area reducing the likelihood of injury to players. Larger overhang distances also keep players from stepping off the playing surface which reduces injuries such as rolled ankles.

Rust Armor

Do I need it?

  • Receive 30 or more inches of rain per year
  • Receive standing snow and or roads are salted
  • Live within 100 miles of salt water
  • Live in a humid climate (60% or greater relative humidity)
  • Install basketball system within range of a sprinkler
  • Want to reduce the risk of weakening bolts and unsightly rust streaks

What's Included?

Hot Dip Galvanization

Rust Armored systems are submerged in a molten bath of zinc coating it inside and out during manufacturing process. Hot dip galvanization protects the raw steel from corrosive elements for 20 - 30 years.

This galvanization process prevents corrosion by forming a physical barrier and by acting as a sacrificial anode. The zinc coating reacts with oxygen, water molecules and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to yield an impermeable, tenacious, insoluble layer of zinc carbonate. This level of protection is similar to that of aluminum and stainless steels.

Stainless Steel Fasteners

All fasteners are upgraded to stainless steel ensuring your system will look great and never weaken or seize up over time. Untreated carbon steel fasteners will be replaced with durable stainless steel to ensure your goal will remain structurally sound and reduce unsightly rust streaks.

Destructive corrosives such as road and coastal salt will not weaken fasteners. They also make moving your system a snap! Never worry about rusty fasteners seizing up while disassembling and reassembling the system.

Corrosion Protection Guarantee

Two photographs: a house on a salt-water shoreline, and a snowplough salting an icy street.

The Rust Armor versions of our hoops are guaranteed to keep working properly for as long as your system's warranty!

We are confident that the hot dip galvanization and stainless steel fasteners included with the Rust Armor™ version will help protect it from the elements. If anything stops working properly due to corrosion we’ll send any parts necessary to get the hoop back up and running at no cost. This applies to the original purchaser, and it covers the parts themselves — not the labor to fit them.

There is one place the guarantee stops: within 20 miles of the ocean. Salt air is the hardest thing a hoop can be asked to stand in, and that is exactly why we recommend Rust Armor there more than anywhere else — it is the best corrosion protection available on any system. The guarantee is what stops at the coast, not the protection.

DESCRIPTION

Backboard glass

33% more glass. 9% better rebound than the closest alternative.

Almost every gymnasium board is ½-inch tempered glass; most residential hoops use thinner or softer materials. So we tested it: identical boards, identical framing, a ball dropped from 55 inches, a high-speed camera to measure the bounce.

Tempered glass is about four times heavier than acrylic — that mass firms up the whole system — and it's harder, which kills the drumhead effect that deadens rebounds on acrylic boards. Like a windshield, it resists scratching and stays clear where acrylic scuffs and clouds.

Acrylic does have its place: we recommend it for institutional courts where vandalism is likely. For a driveway, glass wins.

DESCRIPTION

Frame & mounting

Mounted the way NBA and NCAA boards are — mechanically, never glued.

The glass sits in a ¼"-thick die-cast aluminum frame, locked at each corner with ¼" steel L-brackets, in a channel lined with a rubber gasket. No pressure on the glass, no adhesive.

Many residential systems glue the glass to the frame. Adhesive weakens in the elements and exposes the glass edges — the place breaks start. The mechanical method costs more and lasts longer.

Support lands where bank shots actually hit: square joints are more rigid than curved, and the structure is placed at the crucial zone instead of sacrificed to styling.

DIAGRAM · WHERE BANK SHOTS HIT + MOUNTING STRUCTURE

The stability demonstration diagram — support at the impact zone.

DESCRIPTION

The pole

The quickest way to judge any hoop: check the pole.

Every HERCULES rides a one-piece, square, 7-gauge (3/16") steel pole. As steel prices rise, many manufacturers quietly thin their poles — less stiffness, more wobble.

Stay away from multi-piece poles. They're split for cheap shipping, and the joints are the weak link right out of the box; corrosion only widens them. Every premium hoop ever made uses a one-piece square or rectangular pole. There's a reason.

PHOTO · ONE-PIECE 7GA POLE VS MULTI-PIECE COMPETITOR JOINT

One-piece pole vs the joint that becomes the weak link.

DESCRIPTION

Rust Armor & looks

Galvanized in molten zinc at 860°. Still handsome in twenty years.

With the Rust Armor package, the main structural parts pass through a bath of molten zinc — hot-dip galvanization — forming an impermeable zinc-carbonate layer that also acts as a sacrificial anode: the coating corrodes so the steel can't. Every fastener upgrades to stainless steel (UNS S20100): no rust streaks, no seized bolts — which also makes the system easy to unbolt and move to your next house.

The system is designed to stay that way to look at, too: a proportionate, thin-bezel board, minimal clutter behind the glass, a pole no taller than it needs to be. Branding is a small sticker on the backboard and arm — we don't treat your system like a billboard. Tempered glass stays clear for decades where acrylic goes dull; Rust Armor keeps the steel from ever becoming the eyesore on the street.

DESCRIPTION

Safety & warranty

Warranted for dunking and hanging. Padded for everything else.

Every system includes wrap-around pole padding for players driving hard to the rim and gusset padding so nobody rolls an ankle on the base; backboard padding is available for heads at dunk height. The heavy-duty breakaway rim absorbs dunks and pops back. Overhang is a safety feature too: with the backboard 4 to 5 feet in front of the pole, the pole leaves the playing area and lay-ups have room to land.

Forty years of building hoops went into a system designed for aggressive play — and warranted for it, for a lifetime, dunking and hanging included. Most manufacturers didn't design for that, so they won't cover it. With Rust Armor, corrosion damage is covered for a lifetime too, coastal salt included.

DESCRIPTION

Installation

Assembled standing on the ground. About 15 fasteners. No ladders.

Plan on roughly 1.5 hours to set the pier, 1 to 5 days of concrete cure, then about 1.5 hours of assembly — all from a standing position, no ladders or special tools. Backboard padding and the H-bracket arrive pre-installed, which top assembly pros say saves about 30 minutes.

Self-leveling nuts square the system after the pier cures, and the rim height is calibrated at the end so it's exact. Phone support from an experienced installation expert is included — a real person.

Reviews

Summary of all reviews

Read a few dozen of these and the same voice comes through: people are surprised by how solid it feels once it’s standing. The backboard gives the ball back the way they hoped it would, it doesn’t shake, and the height crank turns easier than most expected — the four things owners raise most, in that order. Several hundred go out of their way to say how well it has handled weather. The criticism is rare and specific: thirty-one owners found the setup hard, twenty-five found the adjustment stiff, and a small handful wanted a clearer height indicator.

Instruction manual needs an update. I was able to figure out the correct placement of components but had to utilize a you tube video to determine the correct orientation of the “H” bracket. Thank you for providing the YouTube video to clear up any confusion. The Hercules Gold Post I received has pre installed female threading that was not mentioned at all in the manual. I assumed that those taps were for future accessories like a light. That, plus the welded seam and placard, allowed me to realize which was the front and which was the back of the post. Overall, my family and I are thrilled with the product and would steer anyone and everyone to ProDunk as it is pretty much the pinnacle of outdoor basketball goals. Thank You!

INSTALLATION › PROFESSIONALS

How does getting professional installation service work?

In most areas, professional installation is available. We keep a well-vetted list of professionals nationwide who have experience with our hoops and are reviewed by our customers. Installation is purchased separately, directly with the installer, who can usually give you a price over the phone. Depending on the area and installer, the average price is around $500 to $600. We recommend lining up installation before ordering. In some areas we offer installation service directly — if you’re in one of those areas you can add it during checkout.

INSTALLATION › IN-GROUND

How big is the hole and how much concrete is required?

For a HERCULES: a 24" square hole, 4 feet deep, and 20–25 80-lb bags of 3000-psi concrete. Smaller systems (the THOR Gold, the APOLLO 60 and 54) need less. Don’t skimp if your soil is sandy or otherwise unsupportive.

INSTALLATION › IN-GROUND

Is the pier kit included?

Yes — everything you need for installation is included except the concrete. We even include the rebar used to reinforce your footer. The pier kit (sometimes called a concrete anchor or ground kit) is four or six bolts plus a template that sets the bolt pattern; it’s sunk into the wet footer leaving about four inches of thread above ground, and the pole bolts to it after the concrete cures.
